Man stabbed in ‘disturbance’ at downtown Anchorage hostel

A man suffered life-threatening injuries Monday afternoon when he was stabbed during “some type of disturbance” at a downtown Anchorage hostel, Anchorage police said.

Officers responded to a report of the stabbing around 5 p.m. at the Alaska Backpackers Inn, Fourth Avenue and Eagle Street. A group of adults had gathered in an exterior hallway before the stabbing, police said.

The man was found stabbed in the upper body and was transported to a hospital. There had been no arrests as of Monday evening, police said.

“The nature of the disturbance, who specifically is responsible for the stabbing, and the relationship between the parties involved is still under investigation,” police said in an online alert.

Police asked that anyone with information about the incident or video surveillance footage of the area contact APD dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1).
