Man arrested at Fairview neighborhood hotel after SWAT standoff

A man was arrested after an hourslong standoff at a hotel in the Fairview neighborhood Monday, Anchorage police said.

Officers were called to the Black Angus Inn just before 10:30 a.m. Monday because two family members got into an argument at the hotel, police wrote in an online statement. During the fight, 33-year-old Dale Pederson pulled out a knife and “injured the victim with it in the upper body,” police said.

The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but police said Pederson then barricaded himself into a hotel room.

Police said Pederson refused to communicate with police, and the SWAT team was called to the area.

Numerous police cars surrounded the hotel Monday afternoon, with several SWAT trucks situated near the back of the building. Police temporarily blocked off portions of 15th and Fairbanks avenues during the standoff and warned the public to avoid the area.

Pederson was arrested without further incident around 1:45 p.m., police said. He was taken to the Anchorage Correctional Complex and is facing a charge of second-degree assault and four counts of fourth-degree assault.
