Anchorage police looking for woman in connection to Russian Jack Park homicide

Anchorage police on Friday said they are seeking a woman described as a “person of interest” in the homicide of a man found dead in a wooded camp area at Russian Jack Park last week.

Police in an alert said the woman, described as “an adult female with short-cropped/shaved black hair and dark-colored eyes," may have information that could help solve the case.

Police identified the deceased man as 56-year-old Chantha Vannarath and said that he is clearly the victim of homicide.

Vannarath, who was found dead early the morning of Sept. 25, was pronounced dead at the scene from what appeared to be traumatic injuries, according to police. Police had been alerted by a citizen in the area, a spokeswoman previously told the Daily News. The camp is located northeast of the intersection of Pine Street and Reka Drive.

Police urged anyone who recognizes the woman or has information about her whereabouts to contact Detective Christina Roberts at Christina.Roberts@anchorageak.gov. To remain anonymous, tipsters may contact Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP or anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
