Police search for suspect in armed robbery at Subway in northeast Anchorage

Anchorage police on Thursday were looking for one of the suspects responsible for an armed robbery at a northeast Anchorage Subway restaurant, the department said in an alert.

Just before 1:15 p.m., officers responded to the armed robbery call at the restaurant, located at 701 Northway Drive, police said. One suspect was taken into custody while the second suspect fled on foot, according to police.

Officers around 2 p.m. had asked the public to avoid the area while police searched for the man; by 4:30 p.m., police said they had cleared out of the area but the suspect had not been apprehended.

“Witnesses say he is black male adult last seen wearing a black puffy coat with a grey hoodie underneath, black pants, and grey shoes,” police wrote.

It was not immediately clear what kind of weapon was used in the robbery.

There have been no injuries. Police asked anyone with information or surveillance video from the area to contact dispatch at 911.
