A Kotlik man was fatally shot this week after he refused to leave another person’s home and attacked them, resulting in a physical fight, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Yago Pitka, 49, was asked to leave another Kotlik resident’s house but Pitka refused, troopers said in an online report. Pitka then attacked the resident inside, resulting in a brawl, according to troopers. The resident produced a firearm and fired at Pitka, who was declared dead at the scene, troopers said.
Alaska State Troopers were notified of Pitka’s death at 8 a.m. Thursday, but poor weather prevented them from traveling to the Western Alaska community until Friday.
Next of kin have been notified. No criminal charges have been filed at this time, and troopers said that the case would be turned over for review by the district attorney.
