Freezer containing human remains found in the woods near Tok, troopers say

A partially buried freezer that contained human remains was reportedly found in the woods near the Tok Cutoff Highway, Alaska State Troopers said.

Fairbanks dispatch received a report about the freezer just after 6 a.m. Monday, troopers wrote in an online report. Troopers based in Tok responded to the area near Mile 112 of the Tok Cutoff Highway and found the freezer about 100 feet into the woods from the road, troopers said.

Troopers said law enforcement from Fairbanks and Glennallen assisted at the scene, along with the Tok Department of Transportation. The troopers’ Helo 2 helicopter was also used, the report said.

“The freezer and remains were transported to the state medical examiner in Anchorage for examination and identification,” troopers wrote. “The investigation is ongoing.”
