Anchorage man accused of sharing photos of toddler’s sexual abuse arrested on federal child porn charges

A 29-year-old Anchorage man who shared photos showing the sexual abuse of a toddler was arrested by an FBI task force, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska said Friday.

Timothy Swensen Jr. now faces federal charges related to the production, possession and distribution of child pornography.

According to a sworn affidavit signed by FBI Special Agent Jolene Goeden and filed in support of a criminal complaint, a woman reached out to Anchorage police in early May and told a detective that a man she knew as “Tim” had sexually assaulted her twice in the past.

The woman, who is medically and mentally vulnerable and spoke to police accompanied by her parent, also told a detective that he had sent her photos showing him sexually abusing a young girl, according to the affidavit.

She identified Swensen as the man who assaulted her and the person who sent the photos, according to the affidavit.

Swensen texted the woman in early January, telling her he was released from jail and that he missed her, and he also described his desire to sexually abuse young children, the affidavit said. On Jan. 26, he texted the woman again about sexually assaulting intoxicated women and girls, the affidavit said, and he also made multiple references to a 3-year-old girl he “molested and raped.”

A day later, on Jan. 27, Swensen sent the woman multiple images of a man molesting a 2- to 3-year-old girl, according to the affidavit.

In March, after Swensen messaged her again, the woman told him to leave her alone, and he said he would if she deleted their text messages and didn’t report him, the affidavit stated.

On May 12, Swensen — who was on probation after serving time for a second-degree sexual assault conviction — was contacted by agents and admitted to them that he took the photos and molested the girl, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit said he told agents he sent the photos to the woman and as many as three other people through social media platforms.

Swensen also told agents he was “out of control” regarding his behavior with the woman he was texting, and that he had sex with her without her consent on “at least one occasion,” the affidavit said.

When searching Swensen’s cellphone, agents found two additional photos of the child, according to the affidavit.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Alexander will prosecute the case, federal prosecutors said in a statement.

The FBI asked anyone with information about Swensen’s activities to contact its Anchorage field office at 907-276-4441 or submit a tip at tips.fbi.gov.
