Motorcyclist collides with ATV in Wasilla after Troopers end chase

A motorcyclist led troopers on a chase in Wasilla and collided with an ATV after the chase ended, troopers said. Both the motorcyclist and ATV driver were seriously injured.

Troopers tried to do a traffic stop near Pittman Road and Karen Street around 2:35 a.m., but the motorcyclist failed to stop, troopers wrote in an online statement. The driver, later identified as Charles Steward of Wasilla, led troopers on a pursuit for about six minutes, the statement said.

“Troopers ended the pursuit in the interest of public safety however, Steward continued to drive recklessly,” troopers wrote.

He collided with an ATV at the intersection of Pittman Road and Sunrise Place, troopers said. Both Steward and the ATV driver were brought to a hospital for serious injuries, troopers said.

Seward was charged with second-degree assault, eluding, driving while license revoked and “a slew of moving violations,” troopers wrote.
