Driver arrested after pedestrian dies in apparent hit-and-run in Midtown Anchorage, police say

A 22-year-old driver was arrested in an apparent hit-and-run that killed a man who was found on the Seward Highway in Midtown Anchorage on Friday night, police said.

Angel D. Green is being held at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center in Eagle River on a charge of failure to render aid, police said in a Saturday alert.

Officers were called to Benson Boulevard and the Seward Highway around 10:30 p.m. to investigate a man lying in the road, police said. He was declared dead at the scene. Police said they were able to identify the vehicle Green was driving when the incident occurred.

Southbound lanes of the Seward Highway were closed for the investigation until about 3 a.m. Saturday. Police have released no further details and said the man’s name will be made public after next-of-kin have been notified.

More charges may be filed as the investigation is ongoing, police said.
