Woman shot to death in domestic violence incident, Anchorage police say

A woman was shot and killed early Sunday in Anchorage’s Campbell Creek Park neighborhood, police said.

Thomas Layou, 38, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, the department said Sunday afternoon.

Officers were called to the intersection of East 46th Avenue and Folker Street at 3:19 a.m. because shots had been fired, police wrote in an online statement. A woman was dead outside, police wrote.

Police said Layou and the woman were related and the killing involved domestic violence. No other information was provided about the circumstances surrounding the shooting and police did not identify the woman.

The woman’s death is the 15th homicide in Anchorage so far this year.
