More than 140 students from around the state competed in the Alaska State Spelling Bee at the Sheraton Anchorage on Thursday.
Joshua Saylor, a seventh-grade student at Mirror Lake Middle School in Chugiak, became champion for the second year in a row after correctly spelling the word "pompier" in the ninth round.
