Dimond High evacuates after anonymous bomb threat

Dimond High School received a bomb threat from an anonymous caller Monday afternoon, school district officials said.

Assistant Principal Chris Kleckner said in an emailed statement that the school was evacuated “out of an abundance of caution” while school administrators and police investigated and swept the building. Students were allowed to re-enter the building at 1:45 p.m., Kleckner said.

“We continue to work with APD in these situations,” Kleckner said. “As more information becomes available, we will update you.”

The threat is the fifth one to be made at Dimond High School since early November and the ninth made in the Anchorage School District. On Nov. 27, a Dimond student was arrested over threats written on a bathroom wall there.

The Anchorage Police Department said Monday that there is no information available yet about whether this latest threat is connected to the wave of bomb threats that were emailed to schools, hospitals and institutions throughout the country last week.
