The Alaska School Activities Association announced Monday night that all spring activities are canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision followed Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s announcement Friday that in-person classes or activities would be canceled statewide until May 1.
The decision cancels all championships, practices and regular-season contests for all-state art, esports, solo and ensemble music, track and field, soccer, baseball and softball, the association wrote.
The ASAA said in an online statement that among the safety reasons for the cancellations is that students are required to practice at least 10 times before competing.
