Fairbanks man sought in Silver Alert found dead in wreck along Elliott Highway

A Fairbanks man sought after a Silver Alert was issued for him over the weekend was found dead off the Elliott Highway Monday, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers said in a dispatch that a family friend found Robert "Andy" O'Grady, 89, and his truck at about 9 p.m. Monday, "down a steep embankment" near Mile 24 of the highway.

"The truck was upside down and O'Grady was located deceased inside the truck," troopers wrote. "AST responded to conduct a scene investigation. AST contacted the state medical examiner's office and they are assisting with the investigation."

O'Grady had been reported missing Saturday by his daughter, who told troopers he had visited an ice park on Phillips Field Road on Friday. He was last seen leaving a friend's home at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, at the wheel of a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado truck.

Troopers said O'Grady's next of kin have been notified.
