Boy, 11, seriously injured in motorcycle-truck collision in North Pole

An 11-year-old on a dirt bike in North Pole suffered life-threatening injuries after he rode into a roadway and was hit by a truck, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Fairbanks-based troopers initially got a report about a fatal vehicle collision on Peede Road at 7:44 p.m. Wednesday, according to a trooper dispatch.

That initial report was incorrect, said troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters.

An investigation found the boy "rode his (off-road) dirt bike into the roadway and was struck by a passing vehicle," the dispatch says. Peters said the vehicle was a GMC Sierra, and its driver cooperated after the collision.

The boy was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, troopers said. Peters did not have an update on his condition.
