Body found in fire-destroyed motor home in Fairbanks

A person was found dead Tuesday in a burned motor home in Fairbanks after firefighters extinguished the flames.

The Fairbanks Fire Department said in an alert that it responded about 8 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a possible structure fire near an Old Richardson Highway address.

Firefighters found an older-model motor home fully engulfed in flames on the east side of the Teamsters union building in a wooded area, the fire department said.

The body was found after firefighters controlled the blaze, which had spread to surrounding trees, the department said. That took 10 to 15 minutes.

Fairbanks police and the state fire marshal's office responded. The victim had not been identified and the fire marshal's office was handling the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the fire marshal's office at 907-451-5200.
