Fisherman swept away in Tanana River while trying to rescue his dog

FAIRBANKS - A Salcha man was swept away in the Tanana River near Fairbanks on Sunday afternoon while he was trying to rescue his dog, troopers said.

Alfaz Sajd Khan, 22, had been fishing when his dog went into the water, according to an online statement from troopers. The dog made it back to shore but Khan was last seen about 50 yards from shore.

Multiple agencies were called to search the area but Khan had not been located as of Sunday evening, troopers said.
