Law enforcement investigates string of suspected arson incidents around Two Rivers

Law enforcement officials are investigating a string of suspected arson incidents that have occurred recently in the Two Rivers and Pleasant Valley area.

In an alert issued around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Alaska State Troopers said that in the past 24 hours, three Two Rivers homes had been burned, including two that were occupied at the time the fires occurred. Several buildings in the community east of Fairbanks have burned over the past three weeks, including multiple homes, the Two Rivers Community Council Building and others, according to troopers.

Troopers on Saturday had asked for the public’s help identifying someone who was photographed by a passerby near the site of one of the fires Saturday morning. That person was identified after law enforcement received tips from across the Interior, and troopers said the individual was determined not to be a suspect.

Troopers asked anyone with information about the fires, including security camera footage, to call them at 907-451-5100.

Troopers, the Alaska State Fire Marshal and the FBI are investigating the fires.
