Moose struck by car, bus near Glenn-Parks interchange in Mat-Su

One person was injured in a double collision near the interchange of the Glenn and Parks highways Friday morning, in which a moose was struck first by a car and then by a bus headed in opposite directions.

Ken Barkley, the Mat-Su Borough's deputy director of emergency services, said a vehicle headed south on the Glenn Highway first struck the moose at about 6:45 a.m. The moose then sailed across the highway's median and was hit by a Valley Mover bus headed north.

Barkley said units from Palmer Fire and Rescue, as well as the Central Mat-Su Fire Department, responded to the scene. Arriving medics reported "heavy entrapment" of the car's driver, who was subsequently extricated and taken to an area hospital.

The Glenn was closed northbound as medics cleared the scene; borough officials said on Twitter that the highway was reopened by 8 a.m.
