One person was killed and two were injured in a rollover crash in Wasilla early Tuesday, Alaska State Troopers said.
Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said a Subaru was the only vehicle involved in the crash, which was reported around 3:55 a.m. on the Parks Highway between the Trunk and Hyer road exits.
Emergency responders found the vehicle sitting in the median with two passengers who had been ejected from the vehicle lying on the ground nearby, troopers said in an online dispatch.
One of the ejected passengers was declared dead at the scene, and the other was taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with injuries Peters described as “life threatening." That person was later transferred to Providence Alaska Medical Center, troopers said.
A third person, who troopers believe was the driver, received minor injuries. All three occupants were adults, Peters said.
Investigators were still working to determine what caused the crash, but they believe speed and alcohol were factors, troopers said.
The northbound Parks Highway was shut down for about two hours after the crash, with intermittent closures after that, Peters said. All lanes were reopened by 9 a.m.
