A 35-year-old Wasilla man died Tuesday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with an SUV that was turning off Wasilla-Fishhook Road, troopers said.

Brett Hopper was speeding southbound on his motorcycle and passed several vehicles by crossing the double yellow lines of Wasilla-Fishhook Road, troopers wrote in an online statement. Ted Richey, 57, was driving an SUV ahead of Hopper and turning left onto Bridal Path Drive when the motorcycle collided with the SUV around 4:50 p.m.

Hopper was thrown from his motorcycle and died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet. Troopers said Richey was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
