Mat-Su requires public to wear masks in borough buildings

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is now requiring members of the public to wear face coverings inside borough facilities.

The borough enacted the new order on Thursday. It went into effect immediately.

The order, signed by acting manager George Hays, requires masks indoors in all borough buildings unless someone is not moving and is more than 6 feet away from other people. It also exempts people with medical or mental health conditions that make wearing face coverings contrary to their health or safety.

A previous order this week required borough employees to wear masks.

Mat-Su is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases after reporting relatively low case counts through much of the pandemic.

The order also requires people inside borough buildings to practice social distancing and good hygiene, and not enter if they’re experiencing symptoms of the virus.
