Wasilla man drowns in boating accident on Cottonwood Lake

A Wasilla man drowned Sunday after falling out of a boat on Cottonwood Lake in the Valley, Alaska State Troopers said.

Matanuska-Susitna Borough emergency responders were called to a boat launch around 6 p.m. and found 37-year-old Justin Hansen dead in the water and attached to a boat by the anchor rope, troopers wrote in an online statement.

“Preliminary investigation shows Justin was manipulating the anchor to the boat when he fell overboard and was unable to self rescue,” troopers wrote.

Hansen was not wearing a life jacket, according to troopers.

The investigation is ongoing and troopers are asking anyone who saw a small boat floating unattended on Sunday afternoon to call 907-352-5401 and reference case number AK21071455.
