Motorcycle and dump truck collide near Palmer, sending man and son to hospital, troopers say

A motorcycle and a dump truck collided Friday afternoon near Palmer, sending two people on the motorcycle to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Alaska State Troopers said in an online report.

Troopers were notified of the collision, at Bogard Road and North Caribou Street, around 3:17 p.m. Friday.

A 41-year-old man from Wasilla was heading west on Bogard Road with his 12-year-old son on his 2006 Harley Davidson, troopers said. A Subaru in front of the motorcycle signaled that it was turning right on Caribou Street, and the motorcycle driver began to pass on the left side between the yellow line and the turning Subaru, troopers said.

A 2013 Ford F750 dump truck on Caribou Street that was waiting to turn left onto eastbound Bogard Road saw the Subaru turning in its direction and started to pull out, troopers said. The dump truck driver didn’t see the motorcycle until the truck was already in motion, according to troopers.

Both the truck and motorcycle drivers used their brakes before the motorcycle struck the front of the dump truck, lost control and fell into the ditch on the south side of Bogard Road, troopers said.

The motorcycle driver and his son were taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries, troopers said.

The case is still under investigation.
