Emmonak man dies from injuries suffered in July crash in Butte

A 22-year-old Emmonak man died from injuries he suffered when a pickup struck a tree in Butte, Alaska State Troopers said.

A 24-year-old woman was driving a 2012 Dodge pickup on Maud Road near Jim Lake around 6:40 a.m. on July 24 when she swerved to avoid a moose and crashed into a tree, troopers wrote in an online statement.

Alex Duny was sitting in the bed of the truck when it crashed, troopers said. He was medevaced to a hospital in Anchorage in critical condition, said troopers spokesman Austin McDaniel, and officials were notified Tuesday that Duny had died recently from his injuries.

Wilmarth and three other passengers in the pickup were brought to a Mat-Su-area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, McDaniel said.

The investigation is ongoing and McDaniel said no citations or charges had been filed by Tuesday.
