Teen snowmachiner killed in Manokotak crash

A teen riding a snowmachine near Manokotak was killed this month when he was thrown from the vehicle in a crash, Alaska State Troopers said.

A Thursday dispatch on the Feb. 6 death of 15-year-old Kylen Moore said troopers were informed of the crash near Manokotak, a community of about 500 people near Dillingham in Southwest Alaska, at about 7:30 p.m. that evening.

"Preliminary investigation has revealed (Moore) was returning from trapping with another juvenile," troopers wrote. "Moore reportedly accelerated ahead of the other juvenile. The other juvenile found Moore ejected from the machine. Moore was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash."

Members of Moore's family, as well as a village public safety officer, were on hand when he was brought to Manokotak for treatment by medical staff. He couldn't be revived, however, and died at about 9:30 p.m.

Troopers said Moore's body was sent to the State Medical Examiner Office in Anchorage for an autopsy.
