Utqiaġvik police seek ‘armed and dangerous’ man in connection to shooting

Police in the North Slope community of Utqiaġvik warned residents Sunday to be on the lookout for an "armed and dangerous" man wanted for questioning in connection to a shooting.

The North Slope Borough Police Department released a statement on its Facebook page asking people to call police immediately if they see Asiagin Dana Ahmaogak, who is "wanted for questioning" about a shooting that happened at 7:59 a.m. Sunday in Utqiaġvik.

"Residents are urged not to approach Ahmaogak as he is considered armed and dangerous," the statement said.

Much remains unknown about the shooting. Police did not say who was shot or if anyone was killed or injured in the incident, or where it happened.

As of 2 p.m. Sunday, the North Slope Borough Police Department had not responded to questions about the incident.
