State cancels Tustumena ferry trip to Kodiak because of ‘gale force winds, heavy seas'

The Tustumena ferry won’t sail to Kodiak and nearby communities on Sunday and New Year’s Eve because of bad weather.

The Alaska Department of Transportation said Saturday that “gale force winds, heavy seas, and freezing spray” led to canceled trips to Kodiak, Port Lions and Ouzinkie.

The vessel will stop Sunday in Seldovia, but will return to Homer until sailings resume on Tuesday.

“All passengers have been notified and rebooked or refunded as necessary,” the statement said.

The new schedule is available at ferryalaska.com. People can also call 907-465-3941 or toll-free at 800-642-0066 for assistance.
