Search underway for man thrown from boat that hit sandbar near Fort Yukon

A search and rescue is underway for a man who was thrown from a boat Friday after it collided with a sandbar near Fort Yukon, Alaska State Troopers said in an online report.

Troopers in Fairbanks were notified of the incident at 10:10 p.m. Friday after the boat operator and another occupant couldn’t immediately find the man, troopers said. Good Samaritans from Fort Yukon also looked for him Friday but didn’t find him, according to troopers.

Search efforts continued Saturday with help from local boaters and Civil Air Patrol air assets, troopers said. Troopers did not identify the missing man in their report.

No sign of the man has been found by Civil Air Patrol, volunteers, troopers or Fort Yukon police, according to troopers, who said that the search is ongoing.
