Early-morning 5.0 earthquake near Talkeetna felt widely in Southcentral Alaska

PALMER -- A magnitude 5.0 earthquake rattled some Southcentral Alaska residents awake early Friday.

The quake, centered about 50 miles west of Talkeetna in the Alaska Range foothills and 56 miles deep, hit at about 4:30 a.m. and was widely felt, according to the Alaska Earthquake Center.

More than 400 people from Denali National Park and Preserve to Anchorage reported the quake.
