Five to 8 inches of snow could fall in the Anchorage area Thursday, with the highest amounts along the Hillside, according to a winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service.
A minor collision on the Glenn Highway around 8 a.m. backed up inbound traffic near the South Eagle River exit, Anchorage police said.
"Plan on slippery road conditions, with the heaviest snow occurring during the morning commute today," the weather service said. "Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times."
In the Matanuska Valley, snowfall amounts were expected to range from 5 to 10 inches, with up to 18 inches in the Talkeetna Mountains including the Hatcher Pass area.
The winter weather advisories for Anchorage and the Valley were set to be in effect until 3 p.m. Thursday.
