UPDATE 7 a.m. Thursday:

All power has been restored after an outage in East Anchorage Wednesday evening.

Chugach Electric said on its Facebook page that power was fully restored by 11 p.m. Wednesday, after the problem was tracked to a fault at its Boniface substation.

Crews had been working earlier Wednesday night to route power from other substations to affected customers.

Customers still without power should call Chugach's outage hotline at 907-762-7888.

Original story:

More than 1,000 Chugach Electric customers serviced by the Boniface substation in East Anchorage lost power Wednesday night around 7:15 p.m., company spokesperson Phil Steyer said.

Steyer had little information on what caused the outage, but said a crew was en route to find the cause. Steyer did not immediately know when power would be fully restored.

According to the Chugach Electric outage map, 1,677 people were without power at 7:43 p.m. Steyer encouraged customers to continue to check the map.
