Explosive device found at Anchorage home

The Anchorage Police Department warned residents of Northeast Anchorage, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and Eagle River not to be alarmed of a loud explosion Thursday night. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was scheduled to dispose of an explosive found by APD's Vice Unit earlier in the day, APD said.

According to police, the vice team discovered the explosive while executing a search warrant in an apartment on East Fourth Avenue in Muldoon, where officers were conducting a drug investigation.

In two alerts Thursday night, Anchorage police said they had found multiple explosive devices at the home and warned residents of "some loud explosions." But when a police spokeswoman was later asked for further details, she said there was only one device and it appeared to be homemade.

No charges had been filed regarding the explosives as of Thursday night, and a police spokeswoman said she did not have any more information.
