West's Eady, Wyche bag CIC basketball MVP awards

West swept the Cook Inlet Conference basketball awards released Thursday night, with Marshala Eady named girls Most Valuable Player and Da'Zhon Wyche named boys MVP in a vote by conference coaches.

West's Antonio Wyche won the boys Coach of the Year honor and Chugiak's Ryan Hales won the girls honor.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

W. Valley 51, Bartlett 39

Ruthy Hebard delivered game highs of 23 points and 14 rebounds Thursday to spark West Valley to a 51-39 nonconference girls basketball victory at Bartlett.

Damaiya Ward led Bartlett with 20 points.

Homer 51, Grace 30

Madison Akers' game-high 19 points sparked Homer to a 51-30 victory over Grace Christian on Thursday night.

Larsen Fellows added 10 points for the Mariners. Mary Hogan led Grace with 11 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Bartlett 76, West Valley 72

Bartlett squandered a healthy lead but still came up with a 76-72 win over West Valley in a nonconference game Thursday at Bartlett High.

"We were up 17 and then we decided to open our own pastry shop and cook some turnovers," Golden Bears coach Greg Fullmer said.

West Valley's Daniel Hornbuckle led all scorers with 34 points. Tyrell Peterson added 19 for the Wolfpack.

Tyler Boyer pumped in 25 points, Bentiu Panoam scored 17 and Ryan Trailer added 11.

Dimond 59, Bethel 40

Eric Jenkins and Mason Merchant scored 12 points each and Dimond shot 52 percent from the field Thursday to beat visiting Bethel 59-40 in a boys nonconference basketball game.

Josh Fosi and Carlos Diaz each scored eight points for the Lynx, and Dias hauled down a game-high nine rebounds. Isaiah Pili furnished Dimond five assists.

Corey LePore led Bethel with 10 points and Taylor Hoffman contributed eight.

Grace 66, Homer 65

Four Grace Christian boys scored in double figures Thursday night, when the Grizzlies withstood a fourth-quarter rally from host Homer and posted a 66-65 win.

Ryan Sheldon and Trevor Osborne each scored 14 points for Grace, Tobin Karlberg added 13 and Daniel Vanderweide chipped in 10.

Jaruby Nelson of Homer led all scorers with 27 points, Sheldon Hutl added 17 and Kenneth Schneider furnished 12.
