Alaska man pleads guilty in Kodiak underwear thefts

KODIAK -- An 18-year-old Alaska man accused of stealing women's underwear from burglarized homes in Kodiak has pleaded guilty to reduced charges.

The Kodiak Daily Mirror newspaper reports Ryan Cornelio pleaded guilty Wednesday to attempted burglary as part of a plea deal.

Cornelio previously was charged with burglary. He is represented by an Alaska Public Defender Agency attorney, who did not immediately return a call for comment Thursday.

Cornelio is set to be sentenced July 1.

In November, Alaska State Troopers said the burglaries occurred over three months. Residents would return home to find items -- mostly women's underwear -- missing.

Authorities say Cornelio was caught after officers responding to a report of a home invasion saw a man running away.

Troopers say they found more than 100 pairs of women's underwear in Cornelio's room.
