Body of missing 74-year-old man recovered in Southwest Alaska

More than a month after a 74-year-old man disappeared while traveling home from one Southwest Alaska village to another after grocery shopping, Alaska State Troopers said they've recovered his body.

In an online dispatch, troopers wrote they had received a report that an ATV matching the description of Henry Williams' machine was located near his home village of Platinum. Just minutes after troopers received the first report, they received a second from searchers who believed they had located Williams' body on the Carter Spit.

The spit is just north of Goodnews Bay, which is 30 minutes away from Platinum, where Williams had taken his four-wheeler to to go grocery shopping.

Troopers said Williams' body will be sent to the medical examiner's office to determine cause of death and for positive identification.

Williams was reported missing Feb. 28 after he didn't return from his trip to Goodnews Bay. The search for Williams was suspended March 5.

His next of kin has been notified, troopers said.
