Prep soccer: East, West battle to 2-2 tie in first outdoor match of the season

West rallied from a two-goal deficit to salvage a 2-2 tie with East in the first outdoor high school soccer match of the Cook Inlet Conference season on Wednesday at East.

"It's beautiful out here," said East coach Kash Kinder, whose team moved to 0-1-2.

The first outdoor contest of the season was a bit of a wild one that featured sunshine, sleet and a short skirmish that resulted in straight red cards to a player from each side.

Nelson Centeno scored on a first-half header to make it 1-0 T-birds at intermission. Centeno's second strike of the game midway through the second made it 2-0.

Dawson Ellingsworth cut the lead to 2-1 with about ten minutes to go, shortly before a pushing match involving several players resulted in East's Mustafa Musa and West's Samuel Monroe getting sent off.

The referee quickly restored order, and shortly thereafter Jesus Esquivel got the equalizer off an Ellingsworth assist with about five minutes to play.

West coach Laef Eggan said his team improved as the game wore on.
