SUV towing 3 ATVs crashes into Eagle River Key Bank branch

No one was injured, but extensive damage was done when an SUV towing a trailer carrying three all-terrain vehicles crashed into four parked cars and into a Key Bank branch housed in an Eagle River professional building Tuesday night, Anchorage police said.

According to a release from the Anchorage Police Department, at 8:43 p.m. Tuesday, police dispatch received a report that a Chevy Suburban traveling westbound on the Old Glenn Highway ran a red light on Eagle River Road. The SUV, with trailer in tow, traveled a "short distance" before it went through a ditch, into a parking lot, striking four parked vehicles, before crashing into the bank office.

"The driver appeared to have suffered an unknown medical condition causing him to black out and lose control of the vehicle which resulted in the crash," APD wrote.

The 43-year-old driver did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said. He was cited for negligent driving.

University of Alaska Anchorage students were evacuated from the Eagle River campus, which is housed in the same building as the bank branch, UAA spokesperson Sarah Henning said.

Classes at the Eagle River campus were back in session Wednesday morning, Henning said.
