Juneau police: Bank robber claimed to have explosive

Police are searching for a man who robbed a Northrim Bank branch in Juneau by claiming he had an explosive device, according to the Juneau Police Department.

Police got a 911 call shortly after 11 a.m. Friday about the robbery at the bank on the Glacier Highway, the department said.

"The investigation revealed that a male entered the bank, claimed to be in possession of an explosive device, and left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash," police said in a news release.

No one was hurt during the robbery, police said.

JPD is asking for help in identifying the man they describe as white and/or Alaska Native, 40 to 60 years old with gray "scruffy" facial hair. The man was wearing blue jeans, a black hooded coat and a backpack, police said.

Two photos of a "person of interest" captured by security cameras have been posted on the department's Facebook page.

More than a dozen Juneau police officers and two FBI agents responded to the area to search for the suspect.
