1 dead, another injured in Talkeetna shooting

One man is dead and another critically hurt after a shooting in Talkeetna, according to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch on Saturday.

The shooting occurred at a home in the Montana Creek area of Talkeetna and involved two males, according to the troopers dispatch. The surviving man was flown to a hospital in Anchorage and troopers are trying to contact his family.

Word of the shooting came from a caller who told the Palmer Police Department shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday that he had shot someone, said troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen.

"It took troopers several hours to track down where the call came from," Ipsen wrote in an email. "Once they determined the location, troopers found the two men -- one deceased and the other critically injured."

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
