Alpha Media to buy Morris Communications radio stations in Anchorage, US

Portland-based Alpha Media announced in a statement Monday that it had entered into an agreement to buy radio stations in Alaska, California, Kansas, Texas and Washington from Morris Communications.

In Anchorage, the six radio stations involved in the acquisition are "KBEAR 104.1" (KBRJ-FM), "KOOL 97.3" (KEAG-FM), KHAR 590 AM and 96.7 FM, "MIX 103.1" (KMXS-FM), KFQD 750 AM and 103.7 FM and KWHL-FM 106.5. KAYO 100.9 FM in Wasilla is also part of the sale, according to a statement from Alpha Media, a radio broadcasting company.

Together, the stations make up Anchorage Media Group, which was acquired by Morris Communications in 1998, according to the company's website.

Alpha Media will add the radio stations around the U.S. to the 99 stations currently in its portfolio, according to the company's statement. William Morris III, chairman and chief executive officer of Morris Communications, said in the statement that the company was pleased to enter into the agreement with Alpha Media.

"They are experienced operators that will maintain the ongoing success of these stations," Morris said in the statement. Morris Communications is a media company headquartered in Augusta, Georgia.

The price of the sale has not been disclosed. "This transaction will be filed with the Federal Communications Commission shortly and is subject to their approval," the statement said.
