Troopers tentatively ID remains discovered in Southwest Alaska as missing 4-year-old

Alaska State Troopers believe they've found the body of a 4-year-old boy who went missing in Kotlik a year ago, spokesperson Megan Peters said.

Peters said troopers "tentatively identified" remains found Sunday as those of Terrell Hunt, who was reported missing in the Western Alaska village on May 20, 2014.

In an online dispatch, troopers wrote that shortly before midnight Sunday troopers in the nearby village of Emmonak were notified that human remains were discovered in a hole, typically filled with water, in Kotlik.

The following day, troopers said, they found the remains "were consistent with that of the missing child" -- down to the clothing.

The body is being sent to the State Medical Examiner Office for positive identification. Peters said the boy's family has been notified.

Hunt had been out playing with another child on the school playground but never returned home last May. In the days that followed, searchers looking for Hunt exhausted themselves, spending 14 hours a day searching areas including the Kotlik Slough and the nearby Bering Sea.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
