Sunshine and year's highest temperatures forecast for Southcentral Alaska

Sun-starved Southcentral Alaskans, dust off the sunscreen: This weekend is set to be a sunny scorcher.

The National Weather Service is predicting the warmest days of the year so far for the region over the weekend, with temperatures forecast to be in the 70s for the Anchorage, Palmer, Valdez and Seward areas. The inland areas of Talkeetna and Gulkana should expect temperatures in the low to mid-80s.

The weather service said the weekend temperatures could tie or break records in places.

Anchorage is expected to have among the coolest days, with clear skies and a highs of 71 on Saturday and 68 on Sunday. Talkeetna and Gulkana are expected to be the warmest, with forecasted highs in the low 80s.
