Anchorage man managed prostitution business in several states, troopers say

A 31-year-old Anchorage man faces multiple sex trafficking-related charges after Alaska investigators wrapped up a five-month investigation.

Mark Daniel Alexander was charged with eight felonies, including first-, second- and third-degree sex trafficking as well as a fourth-degree drug charge, according to court records.

When authorities carried out a search warrant, they discovered Alexander was "cultivating a commercial marijuana grow in his residence," according to an Alaska State Troopers online dispatch posted Tuesday.

Troopers' Special Crimes Investigation Unit started its investigation against Alexander in January.

"An observant trooper on a traffic contact noticed suspicious activity that led investigators to research data accessible through search warrant service," the dispatch said.

According to troopers spokesperson Megan Peters, the case is ongoing and she could not provide additional details.

But the dispatch says warrants were served on "Internet-based companies" and residences in Anchorage that showed Alexander had been running a prostitution enterprise for "many years."

Alexander recruited women from Outside and ran his alleged business in Alaska and several other states, troopers said.

Peters said investigators haven't been able to pinpoint how many women Alexander brought to Alaska. She asked any that any victims who associated with him call investigators at 907-375-6412.

It's unclear when, but Alexander fled to the Las Vegas area, and detectives with the Henderson Police Department helped in his arrest, troopers said.

Alexander faces extradition to Alaska.
