Governor's Picnic

Gov. Bill Walker and first lady Donna Walker will be at the Delaney Park Strip for the Governor's Picnic this Saturday, where there will be live music, free food and activities for the family. 12 to 3 p.m. between N and P streets.

Annual Buddy Walk

Alaskans with Down syndrome attend our neighborhood schools, work in the community and may participate in the World Games for the Special Olympics. On Saturday, the 17th annual Buddy Walk will bring Alaskans together to show support for people with Down syndrome and their families. The walk starts at noon at Clark Middle School.

Japanese Summer Festival

Take in some taiko drumming, traditional dance, a cosplay contest, kimono and samurai photo booth, watermelon smashing, tea ceremony and more at the Japanese Summer Festival. Noon-5 p.m. Saturday, UAA Lucy Cuddy Hall. Free.

DIY

Mini Maker Faire

This annual event celebrating the DIY spirit will incorporate robots, science, arts and crafts. There will be dozens of vendors and exhibitors, interactive booths, TED-style talks and more. Noon-6 p.m. Saturday, Loussac Library. Tickets $10; children 12 and younger (and Anchorage MakerSpace members) are free. (223-5522)

Jay Ofsthun Memorial Car Show and Shine

This may be Alaska's largest car show, with more than 325 cars and trucks. It will take place 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, at the west end of Delaney Park Strip.
