Two critically injured in overnight shootings in Anchorage; police seeking suspect

Two men were seriously injured in separate shootings early Saturday morning in Anchorage, police said.

One suspect was being actively sought by police Saturday. An arrest warrant was issued for 23-year-old Michael Sharp, who is accused of shooting 24-year-old Zachary Johnson "multiple times" while Johnson was sitting in the driver's seat of an SUV outside a home on the 7200 block of Bearfoot Drive in South Anchorage.

Johnson apparently drove away from the shooting, which happened around 3 a.m. Saturday, and crashed into a parked truck several blocks away. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

Attempts to locate Sharp have been unsuccessful, Oistad said. Sharp faces charges of assault and misconduct involving a weapon. Police are asking anyone who knows where he might be to contact police dispatchers at 907-786-8900 and press "0" to reach an operator. Callers can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP or submitting a tip online at AnchorageCrimeStoppers.com.

The South Anchorage shooting was apparently unrelated to a second shooting early Saturday morning in downtown Anchorage, Oistad said. About 2:15 a.m., police officers investigating reports of shots fired near Third Avenue and C Street found a man in a parking lot with "multiple gunshot wounds," police spokeswoman Renee Oistad wrote in a Saturday morning statement. The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition, and while there was a suspect in the case, no one was in custody Saturday morning, Oistad said.

No other information was available. The man's identity was not immediately released publicly on Saturday. Oistad said police were still investigating.

Last weekend, in three separate shootings around Anchorage, a 19-year-old man died, an 18-year-old man was critically injured and another 18-year-old man was wounded in a shooting that police found to be accidental.

"So far they (all) appear to be unrelated incidences," Oistad wrote in an email.
