Alaska State Troopers cruiser stolen with suspect in backseat

Someone stole an Alaska State Troopers car in Big Lake on Wednesday afternoon with a suspect in the backseat, troopers said.

The car was stolen around 2:45 p.m. and later found in the Big Lake area, but both people remained missing, said Megan Peters, troopers spokeswoman, around 4:30 p.m.

"We had a suspect detained in the back and another suspect was able to enter the vehicle and drive away," Peters said in an email.

Peters said troopers were searching for the two suspects. She said she did not immediately have additional information on the suspects or the circumstances surrounding the stolen troopers car.

Anchorage Police Department officers assisted in the search, said Renee Oistad, police spokeswoman. She declined to provide additional information, saying it was the troopers' case.
