St. Cloud shut outs Nanooks in Kendall Hockey Classic

St. Cloud State scored its first goal of the season on the power play 2 minutes, 7 seconds into play and never looked back in a 3-0 win over UAF in Friday's first game at the Kendall Hockey Classic at Sullivan Arena.

Senior forward Joey Benik notched the initial goal to send the Huskies on their way. St. Cloud (1-0-0) plays UAA, which met Arizona State in Friday's nightcap, at 7:07 p.m.Saturday.

The sophomore pair of Blake Winiecki and Judd Peterson scored St. Cloud's final two goals, one at 13:12 of the first period and another at 6:26 of the third.

Nine players earned a point for the Huskies and junior Charlie Lindgren collected the shutout.

St. Cloud outshot the Nanooks 30-14, including a 14-4 advantage in the final period. UAF junior goaltender Davis Jones was credited with 27 saves.

The Nanooks (0-1-0) face Arizona State at 4:07 p.m. Satruday before heading home to host their own tournament next weekend. The Brice Alaska Goal Rush features UAF, UAA, American International and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
