A missing teen girl boarded a plane and left Alaska Sunday, and police don't know why

Anchorage police are asking for help in locating a 16-year-old girl who boarded a plane here and left Alaska for unknown reasons.

Alicia Tatiana Smith got on the airplane Sunday afternoon at Ted Stevens International Airport, police said.

"The circumstances under which she left, and where she was headed, are unknown and a cause for concern," they said.

Anchorage Police Department spokesperson Renee Oistad said police have "an idea" of where Smith was heading but haven't confirmed the information. She said they aren't releasing that location due to the ongoing investigation.

Police described Smith as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing around 125 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

Anyone who may have seen Smith at the airport or has knowledge of her plans or whereabouts is asked to call the police department at 907-786-8900.
