Alaska Photographic Center

The annual Alaska Photographic Center Member's Exhibition will remain on display through Dec. 30 at the Leah J. Peterson Gallery in the Carr Gottstein Academic Center on the campus of Alaska Pacific University. In nearby Grant Hall the juror's choice exhibit from this year's Rarefied Light show, sponsored by the APC, is on display. Juror Amy Arbus selected two photographers to showcase in this exhibit, Charlotte Peterson and Greg Hensel. While there, get a look at the "100Stone" statues, temporarily relocated to APU but soon to go to new homes, we hear.

Show your stuff

The International Gallery of Contemporary Art, where Rarefied Light was shown in November, will have their annual group show for IGCA members in January. If you're interested in having work considered for the show, join up by emailing membership@igcaalaska.org. Work can be dropped off at the gallery, 427 D St. between noon and 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday through Dec. 31. Submission guidelines and entry forms are available at the gallery or online at igcaalaska.org.

Santa, death and cartoons

Ron Holmstrom's dark comedy "Santa and Death" will be screened at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at the Alaska Experience Theater, 333 W. Fourth Ave. The film, made directly from Holmstrom's play, involves Santa Claus encountering the Grim Reaper while distributing presents. It will share the bill with Animated Shorts from the 2016 Anchorage International Film Festival. If you missed them earlier this month, here's a chance to catch up. Admission is $10.
